Phoenix Rises – weekend of Magic of Music for people who lost their homes in the Sonoma County fires to relax, release, and restore at a beautiful camp in the Redwoods – January 26 – 28, 2018.
“Music will encourage the healing that allows your body to dance, your heart to sing, your soul to be in harmony, your mind to rest in silence, and the inner music of your spirit to be heard and expressed in your life.”Christine Stevens
While the fires that blew through Sonoma County in October are out and the smoke has cleared, damage remains. There are scarred landscapes, and conversations on street corners and in grocery store lines as evidence. Less apparent, perhaps, is the residue of fear held in the bodies and mental landscapes of those affected – evident only in a breath caught and held, or an inability to remember even the simplest thing; or, for some, a sudden, unexpected shiver and uncontrollable tears. The restorative power of music can help heal our community and we (Magic of Music facilitators) are out to provide a musical retreat for people who lost their homes.
We bring tour experience with improvisation, music and drum circle facilitation, business coaching, and healing sound to people in Sonoma county. We have been creating playful environments for four years and sharing the healing power of music. According to participants, the workshops give “permission to play,” where, “people can make music without knowing how to formally play an instrument.” Participants report it’s a good place for “people looking to release stress in their life,” which we think would be most important for people who’ve lost their homes in the fires.
We are offering a free full weekend retreat of Magic of Music to provide a group of people who lost their homes a chance to relax, release, and restore at a CYO camp in the Redwoods on January 26 – 28, 2018.
