This year’s Sonoma County LGBTQI Pride theme is Together We Rise. The idea behind the theme is to combat hateful rhetoric and policies of the current national political leadership and to stand behind the people of the community who feel threatened by the words and actions of others who have been emboldened by the last election. The event will also embrace people who have been traumatized and dislocated after our recent tragic fires.
JD Donavon, President of Sonoma County Pride, said, “This is the 31st year we will be celebrating Sonoma County Pride. We have made so much progress over the past three decades, but we still must continue to rise above the bigotry and divisiveness that threatens to take away our progress.” She went on to say, “Sonoma County Pride has also participated in fundraising for the fire victims and we want to applaud the efforts of our First Responders. We’ve asked these local heroes to be represented as Grand Marshall’s in our Parade.”
Director of Social Media & Internet Marketing, Christopher Kren-Mora, is passionate about this year’s festivities. “In today’s political climate I feel its extremely important for our LGBTQI community to show the world that we are real people. There are individuals out there trying to take our rights away and it’s important for us to come together and be proud of who we are.”
Sonoma County LGBTQI (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, and Intersex) Pride Parade and Festival will take place June 1 -3rd 2018 in downtown Santa Rosa at Old Courthouse Square.
