Spreckels Theatre Company 2015 to 2016 Season

Spreckels Theatre Company has announced its main stage and studio theater productions for its 2015 to 2016 season including an encore presentation of “Mary Poppins” and award-winning musicals “The Light in the Piazza” and “Kismet”

Located in Rohnert Park, Spreckels Theatre Company is a semi-professional resident theater company which has garnered critical and audience acclaim, media accolades and S.F. Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle awards for its artistic values and depth of performance. With a pledge to raise the bar of excellence, Spreckels Theatre Company strives to present the best musical productions and plays in the North Bay – with affordable ticket prices.

Soprano Jennifer Mitchell of Woodside, who received critical acclaim for her portrayal as Julie in the 2015 Spreckels Theatre Company production of “Carousel,” returns to Spreckels to star as Clara in “The Light in the Piazza” and as Marsinah in “Kismet.”

“From a performer standpoint, it is incredible to get the opportunity to do these two gems from the American musical theater repertoire. Neither show is done very often and the music in both is glorious. Clara has been a dream role of mine since I first became acquainted with ‘The Light in the Piazza” and I can’t wait to be a part of the beautiful story it tells,” said Mitchell. “I so look forward to coming back to Spreckels.”
The season begins with an encore presentation of Spreckels Theatre Company’s critically acclaimed main stage production of the musical “Mary Poppins.” Six performances will be presented from Aug. 21 to Aug. 30, featuring the return of Heather Buck as Mary Poppins and Dominic Williams as Bert.
A studio theater production of Ken Ludwig’s “Treasure Island” will be presented Sept. 18 to Oct. 4. David Yen directs this swashbuckling adaptation of the classic novel by Robert Louis Stevenson.
Spreckels takes audiences to Italy’s Tuscan countryside for “The Light in the Piazza,” a sophisticated musical based on the 1950s novella by Elizabeth Spencer. Gene Abravaya directs this multiple award-winning show for the main stage with performances from Oct. 9 to Oct. 25.
For the holidays Spreckels presents “Little Women.” Thomas Chapman directs the production presented in studio theater from Nov. 27 to Dec. 20. Award-winning actress Rebekah Pearson of Santa Rosa returns to Spreckels for this Broadway musical based on the classic novel by Louisa May Alcott. Honored in 2015 with a SFBATCC award for Best Actress in a musical, Pearson stars in “Little Women” as eldest daughter, Jo March.
Gene Abravaya will direct a main stage concert presentation of “Kismet,” from Feb. 12 to Feb. 28, 2016 and David Yen will direct the classic thriller “Wait Until Dark,” from March 18 to April 10, 2016.
Rights are still pending for Spreckels’ annual spring musical which will be either Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” or a North Bay premiere of  Disney’s “Tarzan: The Musical.” Gene Abravaya will direct the main stage production, presented May 6 to May 22, 2016.
Select productions presented by Spreckels Theatre Company feature the new Paradyne projection system, developed by Spreckels Performing Arts Center, combining still images and animations to create multiple backdrop effects – creating a visual aesthetic that’s exciting and visually surprising for audiences of the 21st Century.
