“Youth in Revolt: The Adventures of Nick Twisp” Opens at The Raven in Windsor

Gary Carnivele July 16, 2015

The hilarious, take-no-prisoners play about a cynical, sex-obsessed teenager’s pining love for an intelligent girl- Released in 2009 as a major motion picture from Dimension Films starring Michael Cera, Steve Buscemi, Zach Galifianakis, Jean Smart, Ray Liotta, Fred Willard, Mary Kay Place, Portia Doubleday and Justin Long- is about six months in the life of the world’s most dangerous teenager, Nick Twisp. California’s most precocious diarist, his ongoing struggles to make sense out of high school, deal with his divorced parents, and lose his virginity result in his transform from an unassuming fourteen-year-old to a modern youth in open revolt. As his family splinters, worlds collide, and the police block all routes out of town, Nick must cope with economic deprivation, homelessness, the gulag of the public schools, a competitive type-A father, murderous canines, and an inconvenient hair trigger on his erectile response-all while vying ardently for the affections of the beauteous Sheeni Saunders, teenage goddess and ultimate intellectual goad.

Adapted by Monica Taylor, Carl Hamilton and Robert Warden from Sebastopol’s Doug Payne’s novel of the same name, Youth in the Revolt opened in San Francisco in 1997 and has played to sold out houses in Sonoma County and Denver, Co. Directed by Carl Hamilton, Youth in Revolt features Dylan Hamilton-Smith,Troy Duvall,Tim Shippey, Rebecca Allington, Robert Zelenka, Jon Vissman, Julie Schuldt and Rebecca West. Youth in Revolt is recommended for ages 16 and above.
