Members of the West Hollywood City Council joined leaders from the Foundation for the AIDS Monument (FAM) and representatives from PCL Construction, MGAC construction management, and LPA Design Studios to mark the start of construction on STORIES: The AIDS Monument in a ceremony on Monday, October 21. The monument, expected to open in late 2025, is set to honor the history and impact of HIV/AIDS through personal stories and community activism.

STORIES: The AIDS Monument is a collaboration between the City of West Hollywood and FAM, designed to commemorate the toll of HIV/AIDS and recognize the efforts of activists, caregivers, and community leaders. Situated in West Hollywood Park on N. San Vicente Boulevard, the monument will function as a public art installation and memorial, aiming to foster awareness and combat stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS.

Designed by artist Daniel Tobin, the monument will feature a plaza, a donor wall, and vertical bronze “traces” etched with narrative text, enhanced with integrated lighting evoking a candlelight vigil. A podium facing N. San Vicente Boulevard will anchor the site, highlighting the stories and struggles that shaped the local response to the AIDS crisis.
