January is full of ways to gather, celebrate, and try something new at your library. This month brings lively lion dancing, heartfelt love-letter writing, and special screenings of PBS programming, plus more free events for all ages and interests. Read on to find something that inspires your next visit.As always, no library card is needed to attend, and registration is only required for select programs. Hope to see you soon!
Kids
Sonoma Vietnamese Association Lion DancingJoin the Sonoma Vietnamese Association Lion Dance Team as they welcome the Year of the Horse 2026! In Vietnam, lion dancing combines martial arts with folk dancing to mimic the animal’s movements. For all ages at two library locations: Windsor and Northwest Santa Rosa.
Explore STEAM EventsDive into science, technology, engineering, art, and math through interactive build clubs, robotics programming, and creative science projects. For grades K-6. At eight library locations: Petaluma, Central Santa Rosa, Sonoma Valley, Rohnert Park Cotati, Healdsburg, Cloverdale, Roseland, and Windsor.
Teens
Love Letter to Your Future SelfWrite, draw, or create something special to be mailed back to you one year later. Community artist Asherah Weiss will be there to support you, and the library will mail your addressed envelope a year after you create it. For grades 7-12. At four library locations: Rohnert Park, Windsor, Petaluma, and Northwest.
Medieval Martial Arts: Sword FightingDiscover the history of sword fighting and the armor worn in the medieval era. Watch a live demonstration with steel swords, then try your hand at foam sword fighting. For grades 7-12. At three library locations: Central Santa Rosa, Healdsburg, and Guerneville.
Adults
Smart Strategies for ShoppingLearn timesaving, budget-friendly tips for smart shopping and healthy meal planning with the Center for Well-Being. Happening at four libraries: Sonoma Valley, Northwest Santa Rosa, Windsor, and Central Santa Rosa.
Climate California Screenings & Panel DiscussionsClimate change demands new solutions—and new stories. Join us for a special screening and discussion on what we need those stories to be. Happening at Rohnert Park and Guerneville. Climate California is a local public television program presented by NorCal Public Media and PBS.
