Anti-Trans Ex-NBA Player Ejected From WNBA Game
CBS Sports reports:
Former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom was ejected from his courtside seat during the Indiana Fever’s 113-90 win over the Chicago Sky on Sunday after getting into a verbal altercation with Sky guard Natasha Cloud.
An official and security personnel immediately jumped in, and Cloud’s teammates arrived to pull her away from the situation. The official gestured for Kanter Freedom to be ejected and both team and arena security escorted him away from his seat. He tried to protest in an area behind the courtside seating for a short period before eventually leaving to a chorus of boos and middle fingers.
Natasha Cloud did not speak with the media after Sunday’s game. She did meet with team and league security. She later made a statement on social media. “To every trans kid/person, You are apart of MY community & tribe. You belong. You’re loved. You’re seen. You’re perfect as you are. & you will always be protected by me,” Cloud wrote.
ESPN reports:
Kanter Freedom was sitting courtside in a black T-shirt that read: “WOMAN noun. adult human female.” When a timeout was called late in the third quarter, Cloud walked toward Kanter Freedom and shouted at him. He was standing with his arms outstretched and took a few steps toward the court before security cut him off and directed him to leave.
Cloud was held back by teammates and security as she continued to shout and point at Kanter Freedom. He later posted on social media: “I just got kicked out of a @WNBA game for supporting WOMEN! Let that sink in, AMERICA!”
Kanter Freedom, who played 11 years in the NBA, has been a vocal participant in the national debate sparked by Fever guard Sophie Cunningham’s comments regarding transgender athletes. He declared himself eligible for the WNBA draft, saying he identifies as a woman. Another former NBA player, Royce White, did as well.
