Pastor Of Anti-LGBTQ Church Indicted In Hooker Sting

Gary Carnivele August 19, 2026

Amarillo’s ABC affiliate reports:

A former Amarillo pastor was indicted following his arrest in a prostitution sting. A Randall County grand jury indicted David Austin Ritchie, 42, on a charge of solicitation of prostitution. Ritchie, the former senior pastor of Redeemer Christian Church, was among eight men arrested during a June undercover operation conducted by the Texas Department of Public Safety. The church fired Ritchie after learning of his arrest. He had served as senior pastor since 2011.

From our first report:

An Amarillo pastor was fired following his arrest in a prostitution sting. David Ritchie, 42, is charged with solicitation of prostitution. He and seven other men were arrested by DPS as part of an undercover operation. Andrew Merker said on behalf of the elders. “(Ritchie) was immediately placed on leave, and our elders met Monday night to officially terminate his employment,” said Merker. “We are shocked and heartbroken by this news, and we are committed to exercising appropriate accountability.”

From the church’s website:

Adam and Eve were made to complement each other in a one-flesh union that establishes the only normative pattern of sexual relations for men and women, such that marriage ultimately serves as a type of the union between Christ and his church. In God’s wise purposes, men and women are not simply interchangeable, but rather they complement each other in mutually enriching ways.

We believe that Adam, made in the image of God, distorted that image and forfeited his original blessedness—for himself and all his progeny—by falling into sin through Satan’s temptation. As a result, all human beings are alienated from God, corrupted in every aspect of their being (e.g., physically, mentally, volitionally, emotionally, spiritually) and condemned finally and irrevocably to death—apart from God’s own gracious intervention.
