Poland’s public broadcaster reports:

Poland’s new rules allowing civil registry offices nationwide to transcribe same-sex marriages legally concluded abroad came into force on Sunday. The regulations, signed earlier this year, introduce official documents covering three forms of marriage: between a woman and a man, two women, or two men. Civil registry offices can now use the forms to transcribe foreign same-sex marriage certificates.

The Court of Justice of the European Union and Poland’s Supreme Administrative Court rulings that prompted the change directly concerned same-sex marriages legally concluded in other EU member states. However, the new documents do not specify where a marriage was concluded, leaving it unclear whether marriages outside the EU will also be transcribed automatically. Despite the change, same-sex marriage remains illegal in Poland.
