NIH Gets $5 Million for Trans Youth Study

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) announced, on Aug. 14, that it has awarded $5.7 million for a five-year study that will evaluate the long-term outcomes of medical treatment for transgender youth, the Windy City Times reports. Among the co-investigators in the study is Dr. Robert Garofalo, division chief of Adolescent Medicine at Ann & Robert H. Study: Most Gay Male Teens Not Getting Tested for HIV

Young men who have sex with men have the highest risk for HIV infection, but only one in five has ever been tested for HIV, a much lower rate than testing for non-adolescents, reports a new national Northwestern Medicine study conducted in partnership with the Center for Innovative Public Health Research. Equality CA Calls on Governor to Sign Assemblymember Chiu’s AB 960 Protects All Families Using Assisted Reproduction

Late last week, Equality California joined Assemblymember Chiu and a coalition of LGBT and family advocates to urge Governor Jerry Brown to sign Assembly Bill 960, the Equal Protection for All Families Act. The bill was approved by the Assembly on Monday with bipartisan support, and it now heads to the Governor’s desk.
