Martin Jenkins First Openly Gay Black Man To Be Nominated For Supreme Court Justice

California Governor Gavin Newsom announced he has nominated Martin J. Jenkins as the first openly gay and third Black man to serve as a justice on the California Supreme Court. Jenkins, the 66 year old Bay Area native, has worked in California’s state and federal courts as well as the region’s criminal justice system for decades.  Jenkins’ nomination comes as Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell attempt to place a new U.S. Supreme Court justice on the bench before the November 3 election. National LGBTQ Anti-Poverty Action Network

The National LGBTQ Anti-Poverty Action Network (the Network) launched a new campaign that urges presidential candidates to address issues of LGBTQ+ poverty in the United States. The National Center for Lesbian Rights and Justice Work at The Vaid Group co-coordinate the Network with over 100 member organizations and advocates. As part of the bold new initiative, the Network released a two page “LGBTQ+ Priorities for the Next Presidential Term” memo highlighting concrete steps the White House can take to dismantle barriers to social and economic justice for LGBTQ+ people. Two Men Charged After Three Trans Women Are Attacked In Hollywood

Two men have been charged with robbery against three transgender women on the evening of Aug. 17 in Hollywood. Carlton Callaway, 29, and Davion Williams, 22, will face charges including robbery and assault in connection with the attack on Hollywood Blvd according to a news release issued by the L.A. County district attorney’s office. Transgender Instagram influencer Eden the Doll, Jaslene Whiterose and Joslyn Flawless were  attacked while on the Walk of Fame around 2 a.m. The women were verbally and then physically assaulted which was captured on video and streamed live as it was happening. Three Trans Women Attacked in Hollywood

On Sunday August 16th, 2020, Instagram influencer Eden the Doll and her friends Joslyn Flawless and Jaslene White Rose were robbed, beaten, and chased through the streets of Hollywood.  The incident began when the women were waiting for an Uber and one of the men stole Eden’s phone. The group started throwing objects at the women as they tried to retrieve the phone and mocked them. To make matters worse, one of the attackers posted a video of it all to social media. Award-Winning Gay Producer Ash Christian Dead at 35

Lauded producer, actor, director, and writer Ash Christian died in his sleep while vacationing in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico on Thursday August 13th, 2020. He was 35 years old.  Born on Jan. 16, 1985, in Paris, Texas, Christian began writing and directing short films at the age of 14 before moving to Los Angeles to pursue his acting dreams just two years later.  Christian also operated his own successful New York-based film production company, Cranium Entertainment. Man Faces Hate Crime Charges After Heated Altercation in DTLA Bar

Mike Feuer, Los Angeles City Attorney, announced charges against a man in connection with a “heated altercation” at Las Perlas bar in downtown Los Angeles that ended with transgender women and gay men being dragged out of the bar.  Eduardo Gonzalez has been charged with one count of making a criminal threat and a second count alleging the criminal threat constituted a hate crime.  The incident happened almost a year ago on the night of August 23 last year.  On that night, several transgender women and gay men met at Las Perlas bar for drinks following the DTLA Proud Festival.
