Gay Jamaican Author Marlon James Wins Man Booker Prize

Gay Jamaican novelist Marlon James was awarded the 2015 Man Booker Prize on Tuesday for his novel, A Brief History of Seven Killings. The prize is the top literary honor in the UK and comes with an award of $78,000. Using the attempted assassination of Bob Marley in the 1970s as a springboard, it delves into Jamaican politics, gang wars and drug trafficking. New Millennium Writings Announces “Love Wins” Essay Competition

To celebrate the recent SCOTUS ruling on marriage equality, New Millennium Writings (NMW), an award-winning literary journal founded in 1996, is hosting a special “Love Wins” essay competition. NMW will call for essays asking people what the recent SCOTUS decision means to them and their community. The winner will receive $1,000 and publication in the NMW anthology and on their website. The contest will run from July 8th to August 31st.
