AIDS/LifeCycle Kick Off Ride

AIDS/LifeCycle is kicking off it’s 2022 training season to end AIDS on October 16th.  Riders can sign up for the first in-person event of the season, AIDS/LifeCycle Kickoff Ride. EQCA Victory Fund endorses Trans candidate Lisa Middleton

Today Equality California and LGBTQ Victory Fund jointly announced their endorsements of Palm Springs Mayor Pro Tem Lisa Middleton in her race for California Senate District 28. The endorsements demonstrate an early commitment from the LGBTQ political community to elect Middleton, who would be the first out transgender state legislator in California history. In 2017, Middleton became the first out transgender person elected to a non-judicial position in California, when she won her race for Palm Springs City Council. Man arrested for beating couple, police dog in apparent hate crime

Police in Palo Alto, California have arrested a man in connection with a brutal attack on a woman and a gay man as well as a police dog in a crime apparently motivated by hate. Alexander Joseph Furrier, 26, faces charges of felony battery, felony hate crime, felony assault on a police dog, and resisting arrest, reports CBS News.  According to law enforcement, Furrier attended a house party with a female friend on Saturday night (October 9). Gov. Newsom signs bill into law that ensures students chosen gender appears on diplomas

Governor Gavin Newsom signed legislation Wednesday authored by Assemblymember David Chiu (D-San Francisco) and co-sponsored by Equality California and Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis to give students at California public colleges — especially transgender and nonbinary students — the ability to have the names that reflect their gender identities printed on their diplomas. School responds in worst possible way after defecate on teacher’s Pride flag

When students at a California school stole their teachers Pride flag, defecated on it and posted a video on TikTok, the school responded with a ban. According to the San Luis Obispo Tribune, last month, two boys at Paso Robles High School in California posted a TikTok video in which they defecated on their science teacher’s large classroom Pride flag, before trying to flush it down the toilet. California coronavirus death count tops 70,000 as cases fall

California’s coronavirus death toll reached another once-unfathomable milestone — 70,000 people — on Monday as the state emerges from the latest infection surge with the lowest rate of new cases among all states.  Last year at this time, cases in the state started ticking up and by January California was in the throes of the worst spike of the pandemic and was the nation’s epicenter for the virus. California law requires gender-neutral area in some stores

California has become the first state to adopt a law requiring large stores to display children’s products like toys and toothbrushes in gender-neutral ways. The new law, signed by governor Gavin Newsom on Saturday (9 October), says that retail stores with a “total of 500 or more employees across all California retail department store locations” must sell toys and childcare products outside areas specifically labelled by gender. The legislation adds the gender-neutral section must display a “reasonable selection” of items, “regardless of whether they have been traditionally marketed for either girls or for boys”. California makes it illegal to remove condom without consent

California became the first state to prohibit “stealthing,” or removing a condom without permission during intercourse, after Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill into law Thursday. The new measure amends the state’s civil code, adding the act to the state’s civil definition of sexual battery. That makes it clear that victims can sue perpetrators for damages, including punitive damages. It makes it illegal to remove condoms without obtaining verbal consent.
