New LGBTQI Task Force Formed In Sonoma County
The Sonoma County Commission on Human Rights has approved the creation of a Task Force of the Commission to focus on the state of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and interest (“LGBTQI”) community in Sonoma County. The LGBTQI Task Force consists of three sitting Commissioners – Kevin Jones (2nd District), Christopher Mahurin (3rd District), and Ramon Meraz (5th District) – and Commission Chair Judy Rice (5th District) as an ex officio member.
Over the coming nine months, the LGBTQI Task Force will undertake to collect information from all parts of the County in order to develop recommendations that the full Commission will review and forward to the Board of Supervisors as appropriate. The objectives outlined for the LGBTQI Task Force will take considerable effort, and require participation by many parts of our diverse community.
As the members of the LGBTQI Task Force, undertakes this project, they will need to rely on help from individuals and organizations with an interest in the LGBTQI community here. They have identified certain individuals with whom they would like to discuss being involved – either as a member of our Advisory Committee or to help facilitate conversations with specific segments of the LGBTQI community here. Those folks have been contacted.
The Task Force will meet on Wednesday, September 24th at 6 pm at the Family Justice Center, 2755 Mendocino Avenue in Santa Rosa, to discuss the work of the LGBTQI Task Force and how you might support our work.
