Coming Soon to a Center Near You – “Aging Gayfully: The Class” Premiers this October

Gary "Buz" Hermes September 12, 2017

Thanks to two past years of grant funding from the LGBTQI Giving Circle, the creativity and commitment of our Sonoma County Adult and Aging Services, the pioneering inclusiveness of the Santa Rosa Junior College, and the enthusiastic participation of Sonoma, Santa Rosa and Sebastopol senior centers, this fall there will be three offerings of a free class designed to serve older LGBT adults!!!

The class, titled “Aging Gayfully,” comes under SRJC’s Older Adults Program title of “OA 505 Discussion Group” … and did I mention the classes are FREE (Finley Center charges a “facility fee” of $1.50 per visit for members and $2 non-members).

Even if you participated in one of my 8-week “Aging Together With Pride!” series and notice familiar topics, you may still wish to join one of the classes for several reasons.  First, as one of SRJC’s Older Adults Program classes following the semester schedule, we can now devote time exploring each topic in greater depth.  Secondly as we age, our perspectives and needs often change and warrant continued reflection and review.  And last but not least, it is an opportunity to connect with other older LGBT adults and create a greater sense of community.

So, here is the schedule for our late start this semester:

AO 505 “AGING GAYFULLY!

Wednesdays:  October 11 – December 20

Finley Center, Santa Rosa               10 am –12 noon

Sebastopol Area Senior Center   2:30 – 4:30 pm

Thursdays, October 12 – December 21

Vintage House, Sonoma            10 am – 12 noon

Providing enrollment warrants, classes will start again in mid January 2018 and participants can re-enroll and continue being empowered to age with greater ease and enjoyment and continue making connections for as long as they wish!

If you have questions or concerns, I recommend you come to the first class where I will spend the first part giving an overview before you will be asked to complete the SRJC registration process.
