Call to Action – Tell Gov. Newsom to support LGBTQ+ families in California by backing SB 729, a critical bill aimed at providing comprehensive coverage for fertility care
I’m reaching out to share an urgent opportunity to support LGBTQ+ families in California by backing SB 729, a critical bill aimed at providing comprehensive coverage for fertility care, including treatment for infertility and in vitro fertilization (IVF). The bill is currently on Governor Gavin Newsom’s desk awaiting his signature. Will you encourage him to sign it?
Why SB 729 is Essential for LGBTQ+ Families
Currently, existing laws create significant barriers for LGBTQ+ couples and unpartnered individuals seeking to build their families. The outdated requirement that mandates a year of unprotected vaginal intercourse to qualify as infertile excludes same-sex couples and transgender individuals entirely. This not only limits access to necessary fertility treatments but also perpetuates discrimination against those who wish to create families.
SB 729 seeks to change that. By expanding the definition of infertility, this bill will ensure that all individuals—regardless of sexual orientation or relationship status—can access the fertility care they need.
Will you call Governor Gavin Newsom’s office today and tell him to sign this important bill? Call 916.445.2841 and leave this message:
Hello Governor Newsom,
As an LGBTQ+ resident of California, I am asking you to please sign SB 729 into law. This bill will ensure that all Californians can access the fertility care they need and is a vital step in ensuring full-lived equality for LGBTQ+ people in our state. Thank you.
