Ohio Man Pleads Guilty In Pride Flags Arson Spree

Gary Carnivele April 17, 2026

Cincinnati’s NBC affiliate reports:

A man who is accused of intentionally setting fire to multiple Pride flags across Cincinnati pleaded guilty this week to a federal charge that he faces in connection with the incidents. According to court documents, Thomas Niehaus, 53, pleaded guilty to one count of malicious fire on Thursday at the Potter Stewart Courthouse in downtown Cincinnati.

This comes after Niehaus is alleged to have targeted and set fire to multiple flags that were displayed outside different homes in Clifton and Northside last July. One yard sign with a picture of a Ukrainian flag was also said to have been targeted.

Niehaus continues to face seven counts of aggravated arson and three counts of arson in connection with the incident by Hamilton County prosecutors, all of which Niehaus previously pleaded not guilty to. Despite this, officers say in court records that Niehaus confessed to the crime when questioned about the fires shortly after he was apprehended.
