Tennessee Bill on Indecent Exposure Targets Trans People, Campaigners Say

A Republican bill in Tennessee would penalise trans people who use a locker room which doesn’t match their assigned gender. House Bill 1151 was introduced on on February 6 and it proposes expanding the offence of indecent exposure to include any “member of the opposite sex” who enters a single-sex bathroom, locker room, dressing room or shower and shows their “genitals or buttocks.” The current draft of the legislation appears to specifically target trans people. Transgender Nurse Awarded $120,000 in Landmark Discrimination Case

A transgender nurse has been awarded $120,000 after the Iowa prison where he worked rejected his requests to use the men’s bathrooms and locker rooms. A District Court jury in Polk County decided on Wednesday (February 13) that Jesse Vroegh should receive $100,000 for damages for sex discrimination and $20,000 for discrimination in equal access to health care benefits, The New York Times reported. Kevin Fret, a 24-year-old gay trap artist, has been shot and killed in Puerto Rico. The musician was shot several times at around 5:30am local time on Thursday (January 11) while on his motorbike in the Santurce neighbourhood of San Juan, according to El Nuevo Dia. German Parliament Adds Third Gender to Birth Certificates

Germany’s parliament has passed a law which will add a third gender to birth certificates for people born intersex. The blank option on forms, instituted in Germany in 2013 as a Europe-wide first, will be replaced by a “diverse” option for newborns whose sexual anatomy does not fit the binary male or female, according to The Local Germany and Deutsche Welle. An assistant principal bullied a trans boy and challenged him to prove his gender by using a urinal, according to a complaint filed by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).
