Christian Reformed churches leave denomination in droves after anti-LGBTQ+ vote

Several churches have made the decision to leave one of the oldest Christiandenominations in the United States after the delegation voted to hit members who support LGBTQ+ worshipers with a “limited suspension.” The Christian Reformed Church in North America (CRCNA), which has approximately 200,000 members, voted 134-50 last week to disaffiliate congregational leaders and institutions that go against the church’s beliefs on same-sex relationships by publicly embracing the queer community. Sha’Carri Richardson wins 100-meter, earning spot at Paris Olympics

Richardson was slated to compete at the Tokyo Olympics after she won the 100-meter final at the U.S trials three years ago, just one week after her mother passed away. Anti-LGBTQ+ laws lead to ‘public health crisis’ with higher suicide rates among queer youth

Anti-LGBTQ+ laws are having a catastrophic effect on queer youth in the United States. Between bans on gender-affirming care for minors and laws allowing for queer students to be misgendered, outed, or excluded, 90 percent of LGBTQ+ youth said their well-being has been negatively impacted by recent politics, according to The Trevor Project’s 2024 U.S. National Survey on the Mental Health of LGBTQ+ Young People. Over 90% of trans youth live in states pushing anti-trans legislation: report

Over 90 percent of transgender youth in the United States are living in states that have either passed or proposed legislation restricting their rights, according to a new study. The alarming report from the Williams Institute at UCLA School of Law found that 93 percent of transgender minors ages 13 to 17 — approximately 280,300 people — live in states that have considered or enacted laws restricting their access to health care, sports, and school facilities. Climate change has a bigger impact on LGBTQ+ couples than straight couples

Same-sex couples are at greater risk of climate change-related threats than their heterosexual peers, a new study has found. Because LGBTQ+ people disproportionately live in coastal areas and cities, as well as areas with poorer infrastructure and less access to resources, they are more vulnerable to climate hazards, according to a report from the Williams Institute at UCLA School of Law.  Among the 15 counties researchers surveyed with the highest proportions of same-sex couples, all were coastal or urban. Two military members denied promotions for having HIV just won their lawsuit

An Air Force cadet and a Navy midshipman have won their lawsuit after being denied promotions for being HIV-positive.  Former Navy midshipman Kevin Deese and former Air Force cadet John Doe (a pseudonym) filed the lawsuit against the Department of Defense in 2018 when they were denied commissions after graduating from their respective service academies simply because they are living with HIV.  The settlement, announced Monday, will see that the two are commissioned as officers “in recognition of the status and military careers they qualified for and earned years ago,” according to a Lambda Legal press release. “Joining my brave co-plaintiff in […]

Gay airline employee subject to ‘torture’ after arrest in Qatar, family says

The family of a gay airline employee is demanding his release from Qatari prison, accusing authorities of torture by withholding his HIV medication. Manuel Guerrero, 44, moved to Qatar, where homosexuality is illegal, seven years ago for his work.
