Restrictions on transgender rights and women’s rights are losing issues even among swing voters and those who support Donald Trump, according to a new poll conducted by Pathfinder Opinion Research for GLAAD. Also, not surprisingly, the poll found that LGBTQ+ voters are highly motivated to cast their ballots and that they favor President Joe Biden for president by a wide margin. Black Trans Woman and Gender-Nonconforming Gay Man Killed in Ohio Double Murder

A transgender woman and a gender-nonconforming gay man, both Black, were fatally shot while driving around their home city of Toledo, Ohio, in November. A suspect was identified in their killings, but he was later found dead in Cincinnati. Trans woman Amiri Jean Reid and gender-nonconforming man Kejuan Richardson, both 21, were shot in the head in the early evening of November 14 before crashing their vehicle, TV station WTOL reports. State Economies Suffer When Lawmakers Pass Anti-LGBTQ+, Anti-Abortion Laws: Study

States that pass anti-LGBTQ+ and anti-abortion laws may be undermining their economies, according to a new study from the University of Houston. Researchers from the university surveyed 1,061 people of varying backgrounds about whether these laws would affect their willingness to move to a given state. The survey was conducted after the U.S. Supreme Court issued its ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization in June 2022, striking down the national right to abortion and allowing states to ban or severely restrict the procedure. American Medical Association Strengthens Support for Gender-Affirming Care

The American Medical Association has strengthened its position supporting the care for all transgender and gender-diverse people. The AMA’s House of Delegates, holding its annual meeting in Chicago, voted Monday to pass the Endocrine Society’s resolution on protecting access to gender-affirming care, according to an Endocrine Society press release. In the resolution, the AMA committed to opposing any criminal and legal penalties against patients seeking gender-affirming care, family members or guardians who support them in seeking medical care, and health care facilities and clinicians providing it. No Charges Against Police, Paramedics in Texas Trans Woman’s Death

A Dallas grand jury has decided not to bring charges in the death of DeeDee Hall, a transgender woman who died after an encounter with police last year. Hall, 47, had been restrained by police who responded to a report that she was causing a disturbance at a business May 26, TV station WFAA reports.
