Using gender-neutral pronouns makes people more positive towards women and LGBT+ people and less biased towards men, scientists say. Three experiments were carried out to determine the effects of using gender-neutral pronouns on people’s perception’s of women and LGBT+ people. Student shot dead is 39th trans person killed in the US this year. His name was Mel Groves

A 25-year-old Black trans man called Mel Groves died of multiple gunshot wounds in Mississippi on Monday (11 October). Groves is at least the 39th trans or gender non-conforming person to be violently killed in the US in 2021, according to the Human Rights Campaign(HRC), which tracks anti-trans violence in the US. He was a student at Alcorn State University, a historically Black university in Lorman, Mississippi, where he began studying plant science in August 2021. 1 in 7 trans Britons are refused healthcare by their GP just for being trans

One in seven trans people in the UK have been refused healthcare by their GP on account of being trans on at least one occasion, a report has found. And almost a third – 29 per cent – of trans people have been refused care by gender or sex-specific NHS services because they are trans. A university that fired a professor after she came out as trans must reinstate her with tenure, a US appeals court has ruled. The trans English professor, Rachel Tudor, won her sex discrimination lawsuit against Southeastern Oklahoma State University, claiming she was denied tenure and ultimately fired after she came out.
