Wisconsin Judge Rules Medicaid must Cover Transgender Healthcare

The US district judge made the ruling in the case of four trans Wisconsin residents, who were challenging a 1997 provision that excluded coverage of “transsexual surgery” for Medicaid recipients. Judge William Conley said on Friday, August 16, that the state’s Medicaid programme was discriminating against trans people by not covering trans healthcare. Gary Ray Bowles, 57, killed six gay men in 1994. He was known as the “I-95” killer and evaded police for nine months by using stolen identification documents, before finally being caught. Bowles was given the death penalty following a 1996 trial, but the sentence was reversed by the Florida Supreme Court. He was sentenced to death again in 1999. Iceland Adds Third Gender Option and Strengthens Trans Rights in Unanimous Vote

The Icelandic Parliament has unanimously voted to pass a major new gender identity law, which expands the rights of transgender people and legally recognises non-binary people. However, protections for intersex children – that were originally part of the proposed bill – have been dropped. Three high-school students in Connecticut have filed a federal discrimination complaint challenging the state’s policy of letting trans students compete on sports teams according to their gender identity. Caster Semenya Can Temporarily Compete without Medication

Caster Semenya will be allowed to run in races of all distances without taking testosterone-reducing medication until at least June 25, a Swiss court has ruled. Semenya, 28, is appealing an International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) decision that required her to take medication to suppress her hormone levels for races between 400m and a mile, according to her lawyer.
