Heat May Overtax Power Supply so Conserve Today

California’s power grid operator is asking residents to conserve electricity Thursday evening, when a surge of air conditioning use amid sweltering temperatures could overtax the state’s power supply. The statewide Flex Alert, a public appeal for power conservation, will start at 3 p.m. Thursday and last until 10 p.m., the California Independent System Operator said. Items such as fresh meats, eggs and dairy, prepared meals, pasta, sauces, and canned goods are delivered weekly to people who sign up. Hair Salons, Barbershops and Malls May Open Today in SoCo

Sonoma County will allow barbershops, hair salons and shopping malls to resume indoor operations with modifications on Monday, county health officials said Sunday. They are taking the action in accordance with Gov. Gavin Newsom’s new business reopening strategy amid the coronavirus pandemic, local officials said. The county’s move also will coincide with the state’s beginning of a four-stage process to determine how and when California’s 58 counties will continue to proceed during the pandemic with local resumption of commercial and public activities.
