San Francisco’s Congresswoman, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, joined hundreds of volunteers at the National AIDS Memorial for a community volunteer workday to commemorate her 30 years in Congress.  Since her first days in Washington D.C., she has been a leader, champion and hero on the issue of HIV/AIDS and her avid support of the LGBT community.  The Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law (“Lawyers’ Committee”), represented by Jones Day, recently requested permission from the court to file an amicus curiae, “friend of the court,” brief in the Northern District of California in the case of Shen et al.  v. HRC Launches Hub for Spanish-language Resources

Tuesday, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) launched Recursos en Español de HRC, to expand outreach and resources for Spanish-speakers as well as Spanish-language media. Farmer Says Gay Marriage Views Cost Him Market Spot

A Michigan apple grower who posted on Facebook that he wouldn’t allow gay couples to get married at his farm filed a lawsuit against the city of East Lansing on Wednesday after he was shut out of an outdoor farmer’s market. The city said Stephen Tennes wasn’t invited back to the market because vendors must follow its civil rights ordinance, which bars discrimination. New Studies Find One-fifth Homeless Youth Are Victims of Human Trafficking

Researchers announced findings today from the largest-ever combined sample of homeless youth in the United States and Canada, revealing that nearly one-fifth are victims of human trafficking, including those trafficked for sex, labor, or both.  The dual studies by researchers at The Field Center for Children’s Policy, Practice & Research at the University of Pennsylvania and Loyola University (New Orleans) Modern Slavery Research Project, drew on interviews with 911 homeless youth across 13 cities, including 12 cities where homeless young people accessed services through Covenant House, between February 2014 and March 2017.
