EU Court Bars Tests to ‘Prove’ Sexuality of Gay Asylum Seekers

The European Union’s top court has ruled that psychological tests to determine a person’s sexuality should not be used for asylum claims. Controversial, so-called ‘gay tests’ have been used on people fleeing countries where it is illegal to be homosexual to assess asylum claims. The European Court of Justice (ECJ) ruling is binding in all 28 EU states. The case which prompted the ruling was brought by a Nigerian man who submitted an asylum application in Hungary in April 2015. Anti-LGBT Murders Reach Record High

Anti-LGBT homicides increased last year to unprecedented levels – and President Donald Trump’s policies are reportedly partly to blame. There were 52 hate-related homicides of LGBT people last year in the US, according to the National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programmes (NCAVP).  This represented a huge 86 percent increase from 2016. The group’s annual Crisis of Hate report does not include the Orlando mass shooting, which saw 49 people lose their lives inside a gay nightclub in June 2016. GLAAD, the world’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) media advocacy organization, today announced the findings of its fourth annual Accelerating Acceptance report, a national survey among more than 2,100 U.S. adults conducted on GLAAD’s behalf by The Harris Poll. Police Increase Security After Racist And Anti-Gay Terror Threat Against Jackson Browne Concert

Orlando police said they will have an increased presence for Tuesday night’s Jackson Browne concert at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts after a possible threat. Police in West Lafayette, Ind., began investigating Sunday after a banner was left at a Unitarian Universalist Church that hosted a protest to mark the one-year anniversary of the inauguration of President Donald Trump.
