SB 145 Puts a Stop to LGBTQ Youth Being Placed on the Sex Offender Registry

Senator Scott Wiener’s (D-San Francisco) Senate Bill 145, which ends blatant discrimination against LGBTQ youth regarding California’s sex offender registry, passed the Assembly Committee on Public Safety with a 6-2 vote. It now heads to the Assembly Committee on Appropriations. SB 145 is co-sponsored by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office and Equality California, and is supported by both law enforcement and civil rights advocates. LA Receives First Rainbow Crosswalk on 50th Anniversary of Stonewall Riot

On the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riot, Los Angeles received its first rainbow crosswalk.  The City of LA and Venice Pride organization a commemoration ceremony today, outside of Roosterfish in Venice, where the crosswalk is located. Roosterfish is a gay bar that was successfully reopened last year with the help of Venice Pride. The permanent crossing is modeled after the iconic rainbow crosswalks in the Castro District of San Francisco. Brave Trails Summer Camp for Queer Youth

Protestors Bring San Francisco Pride to a Halt

A group of about 12 protestors brought the San Francisco 2019 Pride Parade to a halt on Sunday (30 June). They were drawing attention to the police’s participation in the parade, which they found objectionable because of the treatment by police to members of the LGBTQ Community both in the city and around the world. They also object to the many corporations that participate, that negatively impact the community. SF Approves Nation’s First Ban On E-Cigarette Sales

TechCrunch reports: San Francisco’s Board of Supervisors unanimously approved an ordinance that prohibits the sale of e-cigarettes within the city. If signed into law, the new legislation would amend the city’s health code, making it illegal for stores to sell vaping products or for online retailers to ship them to San Francisco addresses, which means it would become the first city to enact such a ban. Los Angeles LGBT Center Receives $25,000 from National Endowment for the Arts

The Los Angeles LGBT Center has been awarded a $25,000 Arts Works grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) benefiting art education programs tailored to LGBT seniors. Over the course of 18 months, Reflections of a Lifetime courses will provide seniors with opportunities and tools to share their personal life stories through the arts. The initiative is projected to attract more than 75 participants through the Center’s Senior Services. California Joins States Raising Pride Flags At Their Capitols, Defying Trump

California Gov. Uniformed Police Officers Banned from Sacramento Pride

For the second year in a row, uniformed police officers will not be able to participate in Sacramento, California, Pride at the request of organizers. The Sacremento LGBT Community Center asked city officers to participate in the parade without wearing their standard uniform. The group argue that their presence while uniformed would make others feel uncomfortable. What happened? The center organizes Sacremento Pride as an annual festival.
