President Trump Must Honor 50th Anniversary of Stonewall Riots, LGBTQ Movement

GLAAD, the world’s largest LGBTQ media advocacy organization, today called on President Donald Trump and his administration to honor the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots by declaring June as National Pride Month. The Democratic field of contenders continues to grow and I am impressed by the wide range of talent in the party. On Nov. 7, 2018 I wrote that Democrats need a coherent message and younger candidates to win in 2020. My thought was there should be no one over 70 on the ticket. I stand by that today. In 2004, LGBT activist and journalist Mike Rogers posted a story on his website—Blog ACTIVE—suggesting that Edward Schrock, a Republican congressman representing Virginia’s second district, solicited sex with other men through a phone service.   Apparently, being Kevin Hart means never having to say you’re sorry. Just weeks after vehemently defending the controversial “Cowboys and Indians”-themed birthday party he threw for his one-year-old son (on Thanksgiving Day, no less), the comedian is at the center of yet another controversy that he refused to apologize for. Ending Partner Abuse in the LGBTQ Community

Efforts to address Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) tends to focus on heterosexual women, despite IPV happening at similar or higher rates among the LGBTQ community. The American Medical Association (AMA) recently adopted policy at its Interim Meeting that aims to address IPV in the LGBTQ population. The new policy calls for physician and community awareness of IPV among LGBTQ patients. It also requires federal funding to support programs and services for survivors that do not discriminate against underserved communities, including sexual and gender minorities, according to a press release.
