Controversial podcast host Joe Rogan’s new Netflix comedy special is – unsurprisingly – full of gay and trans “jokes”.  At the start of July, Netflix released a 30-second trailer for the comedian’s first stand-up special on the platform for six years, Burn The Boats. The show is full of gay and trans jokes, including Rogan using slurs for gay and developmentally disabled people.  Rogan takes to the stage at his comedy club in Austin, Texas, and talks extensively about the LGBTQ+ community. “I’m not even remotely homophobic. LGBTQ+ Americans are coming out younger than ever, survey shows

LGBTQ+ Americans are coming out younger than ever before, new research has revealed.  A probability-based Gallup Panel survey of gay, lesbian, bisexual and trans adults, along with those who identify as something other than non-heterosexual or cisgender, showed that among the youngest LGBTQ+ adults, aged 18 to 29, the median age they came out was 17. Those between the ages of 30 and 49, and from 50 to 64, came out in their early twenties. A famous London LGBTQ+ landmark is set to reopen after almost 10 years thanks to the efforts of campaigners. The Black Cap on London’s Camden High Street was a haven for LGBTQ+ Londoners from the 1960s onwards, eventually becoming one the city’s premier stages for cabaret and drag acts as well as a place to drink.  Among those whose careers started there was Paul O’Grady’s much-loved Lily Savage, drag act Hinge and Bracket, and RuPaul’s Drag Race stars Bianca Del Rio, Adore Delano, BenDeLaCreme, Raja Gemini and Trixie Mattel. First out gay Lord Mayor of Belfast installed in historic moment

The first out gay Lord Mayor of Belfast, Micky Murray, has been sworn into office in a historic first for Northern Ireland’s capital city. Murray was installed at the annual general meeting of council at Belfast City Hall on Monday (3 June). California surfing competition told it must let trans woman compete

A surfing competition has been told to let transgender women compete or risk a violation of a local law. A two-day surf contest is set to take place in Huntington Beach, California, this weekend (11 May), but, in a decision that has divided opinion, contest organisers informed Australian trans surfer Sasha Jane Lowerson that she could not take part.  The California Coastal Commission has said local events that ban trans women from participating in the women’s division could face being shut down.  Lowerson said she applied for the competition as she fitted within criteria set by the International Surfing Association with regard […]

The North Face faces boycott calls over support of LGBTQ+ summer camps

Popular outdoor clothing brand The North Face is the latest brand to face boycott calls – in this case, over its long-established sponsorship LGBTQ+ summer camps. Brave Trials is a leadership summer camp, located in California and Maryland, for LGBTQ+ youth and allies between the ages of 12-18. LGBTQ+ EuroGames to be held in the UK for the first time

Cardiff has been chosen to host the EuroGames in 2027, marking the first time the LGBTQ+-inclusive event has been held in the UK.  LGBTQ+ sports development and inclusion organisation, Pride Sports Cymru, has been successful in ensuring that Europe’s largest LGBTQ+ sporting event would be staged in the Welsh capital. The first EuroGames, governed by the European Gay and Lesbian Sport Federation, was held in The Hague in The Netherlands in 1992 and this year’s event will be staged in the Austrian capital, Vienna, in July. Russian singer jailed under LGBTQ+ propaganda laws after nude performance

A Russian singer has been jailed under the country’s LGBTQ+ propaganda laws after performing a show wearing nothing but a sock on his genitals.  On Monday night (8 January), Maxim Tesli, front man of Shchenki (The Puppies), was detained at a St Petersburg airport.  It has been reported by Russian media that he was planning to leave Russia amid growing calls for his arrests, following a video of his performance going viral.  At court the following day, Tesli was jailed for 10 days on charges of petty hooliganism. Moms for Liberty candidates face blistering defeats in school board races

Moms for Liberty backed candidates are facing blistering defeats in Philadelphia, despite holding their annual conference there.  In July, Moms for Liberty hosted their annual conference in Philadelphia, the largest city in Pennsylvania.  Moms for Liberty, which now has branches across 48 states, with over 300 local chapters, focuses on opposing the mention of LGBTQ+ rights, race and ethnicity, critical race theory and discrimination in school curriculums.
