Banks Citigroup, Goldman Sachs, and Deutsche Bank Boycott Brunei-owned Hotels

Some of the world’s biggest banks have stopped their employees from staying at hotels owned by the Sultan of Brunei. This follows his decision to change laws which would stone people to death for having homosexual sex. Last month, Gay Star News exclusively reported the country of Brunei would introduce strict Sharia (Islamic) law to the Kingdom in south east Asia.  The new laws include stoning to death for those convicted of sodomy. Canadian Man Claims Marshalls Store Fired Him Because of His Sexuality

A gay man from Oshawa, Ontario in Canada has claimed that he was fired from his job in retail chain Marshalls because they “didn’t like” him and were looking for a reason to let him go. Michael Gale told CBC News that the company—which has stores across the United States and Canada—is “supposed to be really friendly to the LGBTQ community and it wasn’t.” He has since filed a complaint to the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario about his treatment. NGLCC, Other Chambers of Commerce Launch New Business Owner Initiative

The National LGBT Chamber of Commerce is among the chambers of commerce that have launched a new initiative that seeks to provide additional support to business owners around the country. The U.S. Black Chambers Inc., the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the U.S. Pan Asian American Chamber of Commerce Education Foundation, along with the NGLCC, are behind the Chamber Leadership Development Program. Told U.S. Security at Risk, Chinese Firm Seeks to Sell Grindr

Chinese gaming company Beijing Kunlun Tech Co Ltd is seeking to sell Grindr LLC, the popular gay dating app it has owned since 2016, after a U.S. government national security panel raised concerns about its ownership, according to people familiar with the matter.  The Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) has informed Kunlun that its ownership of West Hollywood, California-based Grindr constitutes a national security risk, the two sources said.  CFIUS’ specific concerns and whether any attempt was made to mitigate them could not be learned. United Airlines Adds Non-binary Booking Options

United Airlines has become the first major US airline to introduce non-binary options on its booking forms. The airline announced on Friday (March 22) that in addition to ‘male’ and ‘female’ booking options, customers will now also be able to pick either U (Undisclosed) or X (Unspecified), corresponding with markers available on passports and IDs in some areas. Chick-fil-A’s Foundation Still Donates to Anti-LGBTI Causes

American chicken chain Chick-fil-A is still directing donations to organizations with anti-LGBTI outlooks, new tax filings released today (20 March) show. The fast-food chain has taken great strides to downplay its record for donating to homophobic groups in the past. But 2017 tax filings show the chain’s charitable arm, the Chick-fil-A Foundation, donated $1.65 million to Fellowship of Christian Athletes, which imposes a ban on ‘homosexual acts’ on its employees. Gay Man and Trans Woman Suing Burger King Over Employee ‘Hate Crime Attack’

A gay man and trans woman are suing Burger King after they were allegedly attacked by two of their employees. Raymond Ortega and Toni Llerena claim they were eating at a Burger King near gay club Twist, on South Beach, Miami, when an employee approached. LGBT People More Likely to Go into their Overdraft and Earn Less

A study has found LGBT people in the US more likely to go into their overdraft than the general population. The study, undertaken by OverdraftApps.com, questioned just over 1,000 people across the US. Around 11% of respondents identified as LGBT. The study asked people how often they found themselves dipping into their overdraft over the past year: Never; once or twice; three to nine times; or 10+ times. Key findings include: • Fifty-four percent of non-LGBTQ people said they ‘never’ went into overdraft.
