Transgender rights group’s Los Angeles office receives bomb threat

A bomb threat was phoned in Wednesday afternoon to the Wilshire Boulevard Koreatown offices of the TransLatin@ Coalition, Bamby Salcedo, the president and CEO of the non-profit organization told the Los Angeles Blade. According to Salcedo, an unidentified male caller told the staff person who answered at approximately 3 p.m., while delivering the threat said; “You’re all going to die.” The staff immediately evacuated everyone from their offices and then contacted the Los Angeles Police Department for assistance. Equality CA Endorses Lt. Governor Eleni Kounalakis for Re-election

Equality California, the nation’s largest statewide LGBTQ+ civil rights organization, announced its endorsement of Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis, who is running for re-election in 2022, on Monday. Kounalakis made history in 2018, when she became the first woman to be elected to the position. A California bill aiming to outlaw forced and unnecessary genital surgeries on intersex children has been pulled. California state senator Scott Wiener, a San Francisco Democrat, has been working for  three years to try to ban the “corrective surgeries”. His bill, SB225, would have banned unnecessary surgeries on intersex children under the age of 12, but it has been stuck in the Committee on Business, Professions and Economic Development, according to the Associated Press. CA minimum wage raises statewide and even higher in certain cities

California’s minimum wage is set to go up again in January, hitting a major milestone sought by labor advocates and activists. Beginning Jan. 1, 2022, California’s minimum wage will increase to $15 an hour for employers with 26 or more employees. For employers with 25 or fewer employees, the minimum wage rises to $14. With this latest increase, California now has the highest statewide minimum wage in the country. California’s minimum wage is now more than double the federal minimum wage, which is $7.25 an hour.
