The suspect in a Maine mass shooting, Robert Card, seems to have held extremist right-wing views, particularly against the transgender community according to social media accounts appearing to be from him. The massacre, which began on Wednesday evening shortly before 7 p.m., has left 18 dead and 13 injured, according to a briefing from the state’s Democratic governor, Janet Mills.  An arrest warrant has now been issued, charging Card, 40, with eight counts of murder, a figure expected to rise as more victims are identified. At the 2023 Human Rights Campaign National Dinner held at the Washington Convention Center on Saturday, President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden passionately spoke in support of the LGBTQ+ community, emphasizing their continued commitment to combat discrimination and violence.  The occasion marked the fourth time Biden has spoken at the annual gala, but his first as president. New Pew Research Center polling revealed a range of opinions about open marriages among Americans across various demographic groups, with the LGBTQ+ community accepting this relationship arrangement at significantly higher levels than other groups. According to the study, published Thursday, exactly half of respondents were either somewhat or entirely against open marriages, where both partners agree to pursue relationships or intimacy outside of the marriage. Thirty-seven percent of respondents considered these unions totally unacceptable, while 13 percent deemed them somewhat acceptable.
