Trump Set to Roll Back Transgender Healthcare Protections

President Donald Trump will reportedly scale down healthcare provisions for transgender people later this week, just a fortnight after his ban on trans military service people came into effect. The White House is set to repeal Obama-era protections which prevent doctors and insurers from denying treatment on the basis of sex and gender identity. The existing regulations, which cover any provider receiving federal funds, also require doctors and hospitals to provide “medically necessary” treatment to transgender people. Transgender People at Higher Risk of Heart Attacks, Says Study

Transgender men and women are more likely to have heart attacks than cisgender people, according to a new US study. The study found that trans men are four times more likely than cisgender men to have had a heart attack. Trans women are two times as likely as cisgender women to have had a heart attack. Japan Must Stop Forcing Trans People to be Sterilized

Japan should stop forcing transgender people to be surgically sterilized, Human Rights Watch said on Wednesday (20 March). The rights group released an 84-page report detailing the harm caused by Japan’s Gender Identity Disorder Special Cases (GID) Act. According to Japan’s law, two ‘respected medical professional’ must first diagnose a trans person with ‘gender identity disorder’ before they can apply to change gender. They must also be over 20 years old, unmarried, not have any underage children. Transgender Nurse Awarded $120,000 in Landmark Discrimination Case

A transgender nurse has been awarded $120,000 after the Iowa prison where he worked rejected his requests to use the men’s bathrooms and locker rooms. A District Court jury in Polk County decided on Wednesday (February 13) that Jesse Vroegh should receive $100,000 for damages for sex discrimination and $20,000 for discrimination in equal access to health care benefits, The New York Times reported. Poll: 70% of U.S. Voters Support Transgender Military Service

A new poll has found a whopping 70 percent of the American public believe transgender people should be able to serve in the U.S. military despite policy from President Trump seeking to bar them from enlisting. The Qunnipiac University Poll was published Tuesday in the aftermath of the U.S. Supreme Court green lighting Trump’s transgender military ban. Bipartisan Group of Lawmakers Introduce Bills to Protect Transgender Servicemembers

A group of bipartisan lawmakers on Thursday introduced bills that would allow openly transgender people to enlist in the military and protect trans servicemembers who are already serving. U.S. Reps.
