Students protest Pride flag ban at Massachusetts high school

A high school in Stoughton, Massachusetts was the site of a protest Tuesday night over the school’s ban on what it calls “political” flags and posters in classrooms. The action was organized by Stoughton High School senior Olivia Tran, who was suspended last week for leading a student demonstration against the policy during class hours. Queer Publication Blasts Democratic Candidate for Anti-Trans Tweets

An LGBTQ+ media outlet in Pennsylvania called out a candidate for elected office for past “anti-trans, anti-LGBTQ, and racist” tweets. The outlet QBurgh, which covers the Pittsburgh area, reported on a string of objectionable posts made by Joanna Doven shortly after she announced that she would seek an at-large seat on the Allegheny County Council, challenging Democrat Bethany Hallam who currently holds that seat. The tweets from 2015 surrounded the discovery that Rachel Dolezal, a white woman, had publicly pretended to be and described herself as Black. Stonewall Museum Celebrates 50th Anniversary

The Stonewall National Education Program is celebrating it’s tenth year bringing LGBTQ+ history to United States communities.  Robert Kesten, executive director of the Stonewall National Museum & Archives, recently told Tracy E. Gilchrist of Advocate Today how queer organizations within the country continue to fight back as LGBTQ+ rights remain under attack. “I think that it’s important to recognize that what we do is we not only collect the history and the culture, but we present it,” he says. Sonoma County Library Offering Queer Book Clubs – One for Teens

Meet with other teens to discuss books centering LGBTQ+ voices!  Meetings are in person, at the Northwest Library (the one by Coddingtown Mall), every 4th Tuesday of the month, from 4:30pm-5:30pm.  Print copies of that month’s book are available for checkout at Northwest a month before discussion.  Snacks will be provided! Fired Over Gay Guest Speaker, Former Tenured Professor Files Lawsuit

A professor with more than forty years of employment and tenure at a Christian university in Oklahoma has sued the school for firing him over a gay guest speaker he had invited to speak to his class. The guest speaker, a former adjunct professor, is included in the lawsuit. Michael O’Keefe and Scott Hale filed an Oklahoma County District Court complaint alleging university administrators had stained their reputations. According to them, Oklahoma Christian University, a Church of Christ-affiliated school, and its chief legal counsel Stephen Eck acted and spoke “wrongfully, intentionally, and recklessly” about the men. Algerian authorities launch pathetic anti-rainbow campaign in bid to ban Pride flags

Officials in Algeria, where homosexuality is illegal, are attempting to stop any use of the Pride flag, according to footage shared online. Video shared on both Twitter and Reddit depicts the police and other officials handing out information pamphlets to the public about LGBTQ+ flags and symbols. 13-year-old boy died by suicide after homophobic bullying at French school

A 13-year-old boy in France named Lucas died by suicide last Saturday, January 7 after facing anti-LGBTQ+ bullying at school. People close to his family say that the school did little to stop the bullying.
